Woh Bhi Din The: Plot

Set in Jamshedpur, Ali's story opens with Loyola school alum Rahul Sinha (John Abraham in a cameo) returning to address students. Once back, he reminisces about his own days between 11th and 12th years with his friends Joy Ganguly (Gourav) and Malaika aka Milky (Sanghi). Saraf plays the younger Rahul, who's the mischievous leader of his boys' gang. Shalini (Charu Bedi) also plays Rahul's neighbour who he crushes on. The dynamics of the group change slightly once Milky joins them. However, over time, the larger friendship group splits as peer pressure, jealousy and betrayal gets the better of them.

Originally titled Banana, this Zee5 feature was supposed to be Sajid Ali's directorial debut. Instead, Sajid, who is the brother of Imtiaz Ali, made his debut with Laila Majnu in 2018. That film went to introduce Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri to Bollywood. Similarly, the casting for the students including Saraf, Gourav and Sanghi is spot on. But the screenplay by Sajid and Saurabh Swamy grows a bit tired and indulgent. The coming-of-age feature Woh Bhi Din The goes down memory lane to the late 1990s. The Hindi film was filmed a decade ago in 2013 with a teenage trio of Rohit Saraf, Adarsh Gourav and Sanjana Sanghi who have since made a name for themselves in Bollywood with their projects.
